Tips for Beginners

Starting a food drive is a big task to take on, but very honorable. Here are some tips to make sure that the task isn't as hard as it needs to be.

Tip #1: Be Patient

With both yourself AND those around you. It will be a difficult start and some may be excited to be a part of it but not want to put any effort in. That is okay. Don't force anyone to participate who doesn't want to, but encourage everyone you know at the organization you are at to possibly consider participating. If you can't get enough people to help, consider delaying or downsizing the food drive.

Tip #2: Check what items are most needed

Each food shelf struggles to get certain items more than others. If you are able to specifically help your local food shelf with those most needed items it would be a huge help to them and make even more of an impact on your local community. You could also consider a point system if the food drive is for a school where the most needed items give more points. This healthy competetion might help make your food drive go better than you could imagine.

Tip #3: Use social media

Spreading the word that you are having a food drive in person is great, but with modern technology we are able to spread a message to millions with just a few taps. Use however many social media platforms you are able to and spread the word there! Use graphics to make your message pop, and if you don't have any graphics you can use our own graphics at project2 under our digital materials list.
